PINK LADY: LET'S GO YOUNG

a review by Trooper Tru McCray

Ladies and Gentlemen. Pink Lady fans of all ages. welcome back to the Trooper's Review! Tonight’s topic is the show on which they performed their greatest hits: Let’s Go Young!

Sindbad at the Beach (Nagisa No Sindbad): Of course our Japanese Dynamic Duo started the show as only they could – with fresh energy and even more elegant outfits. For this song, they wore two-piece dark blue sparkly dresses with feathers in their hair. As far as the performance of this song is concerned, they executed it with perfection as always.

Wanted: MIE wore black, and KEI wore white. Again, they gave an excellent performance of this song.

UFO: A simple-yet-entertaining interstellar masterpiece of a performance.

Southpaw: Another song that was performed with precision and excellence. Of course with baseball being the theme of the song, MIE & KEI had to dress the part. And that they did; MIE’s outfit was gold, and KEI’s was silver.

Monster: For those who have seen the “2004 Dance Choreography Collection” DVDs, I’ll have you know that the outfits they wore were the same as those that they wore for this performance in 1977. In my opinion, the monstrous roar sounded too phony coming from the horns. Other than that, they gave an excellent performance of this song.

Invisible Man (Tomei Ningen): This will probably be an on-going issue for me, but I must tell youz anyway. I know that MIE & KEI were trained to adapt to any tempo [no matter how fast or slow it is], but I must say again to the boys in the band: THAT WAS TOO F***ING FAST! WHAT IN THE BLUE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO DO – MAKE THEM MESS UP A MOVE AND/OR HAVE AN INJURY SO EVERYONE CAN GO HOME AT A DECENT HOUR?!? I’ll tell you: if I was the band’s boss, I’d fire all of them! Other than that, MIE & KEI did great as always.

Chameleon Army: This was another great performance. But to those who were watching this at home on your computers and/or DVD players, you were probably wondering if their outfits really changed colors. Unfortunately, they didn’t; it was just a special effect for the screen… although that would have been nice to actually see a dress/outfit change colors.

Zipangu: This song was rather “happy-spirited” to say the least. Their outfits were sparkly and elegant; almost something out of “Aladdin”. There is just one difference: Aladdin’s outfit wasn’t at all sparkly, and his partner was a small monkey named Abu. Needless to say, MIE & KEI made Aladdin really look like a street rat!

Kiss in the Dark: An all-time Pink Lady favorite! In addition, this Trooper was tickled pink (no pun intended) just from seeing KEI bounce to the beat. In addition, MIE really lets loose near the end. And for those who were watching this show in Japan, the subtitles must have come in handy.

Do Your Best: To be quite honest, I really didn’t think too much of this song… until the disco beat kicked in. Of course, MIE & KEI brought their usual “Pink Energy” to this song. For some reason, I felt an inspirational feel to this song (hence the title “Do Your Best”).

Your Toast Girl:  This song is slowly-but-surely growing on me; it’s becoming a favorite of mine. Again, my beef is with the band on this one… DAMN SPEED DEMONS! SLOW IT DOWN SOME; LET THE LADIES GIVE THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! [In my opinion, their best performance of this song was on the 27th of May 2005 as part of the UFO Concert Series.]

Lady-X: Another high-energy performance with the Ladies dressed in glittery black outfits! They were definitely dressed to kill in this one!

Stop in the Name of Love: An excellent tribute to the Supremes.

Carmen ’77: The Ladies did a good job on this song as well. In my opinion, the band could have done a little better; I wasn’t feeling it with the way the music was done.

Sergeant Pepper (Pepper Keibu):  What a way to end the show – with an all-time favorite! On top of that, MIE & KEI were all smiles; they clearly had a good time performing this song.

Well my fellow Pink Lady fans, that will do it for this edition of the Trooper’s Review. I hope you enjoyed reading this as I have enjoyed seeing/hearing these wonderful performances. Once again, I thank my fellow Chicagoan Joshua Parris for bringing Pink Lady back to my attention back in 2009, I thank Jeffrey Branch for creating the “Pink Lady America” website, and I thank Mitsuyo Nemoto & Keiko Masuda for bringing Pink Lady to this world. And most of all, I thank all of you for loving Pink Lady as much as I do. See ya next time, Think Pink, and God Bless.
